John Carnes is a jeweler and metal artist, and an instructor at the Ontario College of Art and Design in Toronto. He worked for many years as a bass player before learning Balinese gamelan (and gendèr wayang) in New York and Bali with Ni Ketut Suryatini and others.

James Kippen is a scholar of Hindustani music, and is Professor of Ethnomusicology at the University of Toronto. He has also been involved in Balinese gamelan music over many years through his wife, Annette Sanger. He began learning gendèr wayang in 2004 with I Wayan Sinti in Seattle, and in 2007 he studied in Bali with I Wayan Konolan. In 2011 he returned to Bali to learn with I Wayan Suweca, I Nyoman Sumandhi and I Nyoman Manik.

Annette Sanger is a Lecturer in Ethnomusicology at the University of Toronto, where she also directs the gamelan semar pegulingan. She undertook two years’ fieldwork in Bali in the early 1980s where she studied gamelan with I Wayan Sinti and dance with I Nyoman Cerita. Over the years she has learned gendèr wayang from I Nyoman Sudarna, I Wayan Sinti, I Wayan Konolan, I Wayan Suweca, I Nyoman Sumandhi and I Nyoman Manik.

Albert Wong is a pianist and composer who has degrees from the University of Calgary and the University of Toronto. He works as an engineer in the Toronto area. He has played in and composed for the gamelan semar pegulingan, and became involved in gendèr wayang in 2006.
